Meet Julie-May

Julie-May was raised in a blue-collar family in a regional mining community. She discovered her passion for psychology as a mature age student and single mother, at James Cook University.

She was as the first person in her large extended family to attend University. Diverse life experiences have informed her personal philosophy that "Those Who Can, Must“.

With a deep appreciation for the benefits of her education, Julie-May has been a strong advocate for change within government, organisations, systems, and for individuals.

Having navigated many challenges in life, Julie-May now enjoys a peaceful life in rural NSW with her husband and three dogs.

EMDR Specialist

For almost two decades, Julie-May has proudly oriented her focus towards EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapy.

Research indicates that EMDR is effective in 77% of cases and is the most efficient and effective evidence based treatment for trauma.

EMDR, a relatively new therapy, was developed in 1987 by Francine Shapiro. Although supported by extensive research and internationally recognized as 'best practice' for treating trauma, EMDR has only recently achieved wider acceptance in Australia. EMDR has become increasingly accessible due to the ever increasing pool of accredited clinicians.

Dr. Julie-May is diligent in maintaining and extending her EMDR skills. As an EMDRAA accredited Consultant, she has enjoyed contributing to the supervision and guidance of Australian clinicians in training.

Professional Experience

With over twenty years of experience in both private and public sectors, Dr. Julie-May has served as a Military Psychologist (CAPT), worked with Centrelink, Disability Services QLD, and Employee Assistance Services. She has also dedicated eight years as a voluntary expert consultant for the EMDRAA Accreditation and Standards Committee and has spent fifteen years in private practice
